Yahaya Bello

Yahaya Bello is a Nigerian politician and businessman. He became the 4th democratically elected Governor of Kogi State in 2015, and was sworn-in in January 2016.

In addition, he is the Director of Kogi Youth Arise Forum, a group that motivated the campaign of President Muhammadu Buhari in Kogi State.

Also, he was the managing director of FairPlus International Ltd. Yahaya Bello is the youngest democratically elected governor in Nigeria, who assumed his first office at age 40.

Yahaya Bello Background

Yahaya Adoza Bello was born on June 18, 1975 in Okene LGA, Kogi State as the youngest of six children. He was born to Late Alhaji Bello Ipemida Ochi and Hajiya Hawawu Oziohu.

In 1984, he attended the LGEA primary school, Agasa. And, in 1989, he proceeded to Agassa Community Secondary school, Anyava, Agassa-Okene. He finished his secondary education at Government Secondary School, Suleja-Niger State in 1994. 

Then, he proceeded to Ahmadu Bello University, Abu Zaria, where he studied Accounting (B.Sc) and Business Administration (MBA). In 2004, he became a Chartered Fellow of the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN).

Yahaya Bello Early Career

Yahaya Bello started as a Revenue Officer II at the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) in 2001. He began at the commission as a Youth Corp member and got retained due to his diligence. Shortly after, he became a Senior Accountant and got transferred to the Makurdi Zonal Office to head the Account Department. 

Later on, he became the Assistant Chief Accountant until he resigned to venture into private business.

Bello is married and blessed with children.

Political Life

Yahaya was sworn in as the Governor of Kogi State in January 2016. He became the governor after the first elected candidate, Prince Abubakar Audu died. He succeeded Idris Wada.

Also, on Nov. 16, 2019, Bello was re-elected as Governor under the All Progressive Congress (APC) against Musa Wada of the Peoples Democratic Party.

After he left public office, news had it that he traded in stocks and had a financial breakthrough before the stock market crashed.

Yahaya is an entrepreneur and the founder of Fairplus International Limited. Fairplus is a leading transport company across Nigeria. They provide road transport services of the highest quality anywhere in Nigeria in particular and Africa in general. The company is into road transportation, courier services, bus hire, charter etc.

According to Nigerianinfofinder.com, Yahaya’s net worth is $5.6 million. He is one of the richest governors in Nigeria. 

Yahaya has been using his wealth to help the less priviledged and the needy. Currently, he supports three different foundations. Aside that, he granted scholarship to  Ms. Fatima Bombom Sani, the best graduating student from Law School in 2017.
