FbStart Accelerator Program; Facebook Partners CcHub To Empower Startups In Nigeria And Ghana

FbStart Accelerator Programme

Facebook, the American social media and social networking company, says it is working in partnership with Co-Creation Hub (CcHUB) to mentor and empower 12 startup businesses in Season 2 of the FbStart Accelerator Programme

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) gathered that the FbStart Accelerator Programme is a research and mentorship-focused 6-month programme for innovative and visionary teams daring to initiate solutions with cutting-edge technologies.

Speaking at the occasion on Thursday in Lagos, Kendra Nnachi, Facebook Startups and Developers Programme Manager, said that the programme had been extended to startups in Ghana. She emphasized that the second edition of the programme was a renewal of Facebook’s commitment to supporting and empowering local innovators and upcoming entrepreneurs in realising their business goals.

Benefits of the FbStart Accelerator Programme to African Startups.

Ms. Nnachi said that the maiden edition saw 15 startups and student teams graduate as at April 2019, raising cumulatively over $400,000 in investments and grants. She added that Season 2 will be made up of 12 startup teams receiving up to $20,000 in equity.

According to Nnachi, some of the benefits of FbStart Accelerator programme to startups include:

  •  Receiving funding,
  • One-on-one mentorship from Facebook and CcHUB,
  • Access to corporates and industry experts,
  • $16,000 in product credits and more.

The Chief Executive Officer, CcHUB, Bosun Tijani, while lauding the initiative, said that the hub was pleased to be renewing its support to innovators who were building the future of Africa. “By renewing our partnership with Facebook, we will continue to deepen adoption of advanced technologies across Africa and inspire the next generation of innovators to compete globally,” Tijani said.

Ms. Kendra Nnachi, who spoke extensively at the event, said, “Given our passion for connecting people and helping developers and entrepreneurs to thrive, we can’t wait to see how this year’s cohort develop and build solutions and technology to engage and empower people across Nigeria, Ghana and potentially the continent.”

She therefore, called on those building solutions that leverage advanced technologies – Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), Data Science and Extended Reality – in Nigeria and Ghana, saying that the accelerator programme provides startups with the needed support to build and optimise value-driven products and match them with resources from Facebook and CcHUB.

The programme is aimed at enlightening students and entrepreneurs about deep-tech while encouraging them to create solutions with innovative technologies and promote the programme.

Facebook and CcHUB’s Partnership on FbStart Accelerator 2019.

Facebook, in partnership with CcHUB, launched NG_HUB in May 2018 in Yaba. The hub is a deep-technology driven innovation lab for businesspersons, researchers, students, technologists and other stakeholders building solutions with cutting-edge technologies.

The hub also houses startups in the FbStart Accelerator who are creating solutions that leverage Artificial Intelligence AI, Internet of Things (IoT), Data Science and Virtual Reality.
