Nerds Unite 2020

The Nerds Unite 2020 kickstarted with the keynote address delivered by MainOne CEO, Funke Opeke. She disclosed how MainOne has been at the forefront of digital transformation in Nigeria, and what to expect in the future.

According to her, “MainOne in 2015 launched services in MDX-I data center. We believe this is simply the tip of the iceberg because, in the future, we know that data centers will be around the country to meet the demands of our market. Nigeria will attract others around the continent to come here and truly we will become that giant of Africa that we all talk about based on the size and the width of our population over the virtual connections and content that we will generate. There will be new jobs to drive the digital economy.

Also, with more investments in digital space, contents will be available everywhere and the search for talents will not just be in few cities in Nigeria. More government services will be online and contents will increasingly be available in local languages. More Nigerians will be online and Nigeria will become a bigger player in terms of traffic on the internet.”

Basically, MainOne is ready to prepare Nigerians for the future of the digital economy. With this, she disclosed the Azure Stack Cloud Services which is locally resident in Nigeria. This new development will also attract investors from around the continent and new jobs will be created.

According to Funke, “It is the same Azure Stack you have in the public cloud that is locally resident on the platform provided. By being on the platform you can tap in the global knowledge base and support of global giants; HPE and Microsoft. MainOne will be responsible for providing the service to you.”

Speaking on the partnership on the Cloud Services, Mr Wale Olokodana, Business Group Director, Microsoft commended MainOne for being at the forefront of cloud services. He further highlighted Azure Stack Hub from MDX-I as reducing the time of marketing, meeting the regulatory data privacy and compliance, e.t.c
