Aisha Buhari

Aisha Buhari is a cosmetologist, beauty therapist and woman activist. She is the First Lady of Nigeria, and the wife of General Muhammadu Buhari, the sitting President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Aisha is a woman activist. She is the founder of Aisha Buhari Foundation and Future Assured Programme. Also, she published the book; Essentials of Beauty Therapy: A Complete Guide for Beauty Specialists.

Aisha Buhari Background

Aisha Halilu was born on February 17, 1971 in Adamawa State. She attended primary and secondary school in Adamawa State. Then, proceeded to Ambrose Alli University (AAU) and bagged a degree in Public Administration. Thereafter, she attended the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Kaduna for Masters in International Affairs and Strategic Studies. 

In addition, Aisha holds a diploma in Beauty Therapy from the Carlton Institute of Beauty Therapy, Windsor, UK. In Carlton, she specialised in Permanent Make-up, Mesotherapy and Micro-dermabrasion. She also holds a post graduate diploma in cosmetology and beauty from Academy Esthetigue Beauty Institute of France.

Currently, she is undertaking a Counseling Course on Co-Dependency in the UK.

Aisha Buhari Personal Life

Aisha married Muhammadu Buhari on December 2, 1989. This was after Buhari divorced Safinatu in 1988. Aisha and Buhari’s union is blessed with five children and grandchildren.

Aisha Buhari Early Career

Aisha is the founder of Hanzy Spa, and the Principal of Hanzy Beauty Institute. She has over 15 years of experience in the beauty industry, until she recently put it on hold due to her official position. Also, she is a resource person for the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) on Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology. 

Aisha has helped in developing a structured curriculum for the NBTE. For instance, her book Essentials of Beauty Therapy: A Complete Guide for Beauty Specialists is a recommended text in the institution.

Aisha Buhari Foundation

Aisha is a women’s rights activist and girl-child education advocate. She is a staunch critic of early child marriage, homosexuality and violence against women. As a result, she established the Aisha Buhari foundation, an organisation concerned about the welfare of Nigerian women and children. 

Through her foundation, she also established the Future Assured Programme. Future Assured is a project targeted at ending depression, abuse and the challenges women and children go through. Basically, it was founded with the aim of improving the well-being and lives of women and children through advocacy.

Through these platforms, Aisha has done several charitable services to help the female gender. For instance, she constructed a fully equipped maternity complex at the Daura General Hospital. She has sponsored several surgeries and child health care.

In 2017, she placed about 60 orphans from Daura on Scholarship and also shared food items in Katsina state. Also, in 2019, She empowered 2000 women in Adamawa State. She also launched a Green School Agricultural Initiative at Aliyu Mustafa College, Yola.

Aisha’s passion for women empowerment grew as a result of her upbringing in the northern region where the female gender was educationally disadvantaged.

Due to huge advocacy for women and girl-child in recent times, Aisha has received both local and international recognition. Some of which include;
