Healthy Breakfast – Healthy Breakfast Habit For The Entrepreneur

Healthy Breakfast

Start your day with a healthy breakfast! The morning, they say, tells the day. The morning is arguably the most critical part of the day. Even nature appears to agree with this. Little wonder, key readings like blood pressure and glucose are very often taken in the morning when they are thought to be most accurate. The human body hardly lies in the morning – probably because following the routine maintenance works the body undergoes over the night during sleep, you are likely to find things in their truest state at dawn. It is therefore essential that the morning is managed with the seriousness it entails.

It is now common knowledge that the first meal of the day, breakfast, is the most important of the day. Yet, many of us have refused to adopt such a healthy breakfast habit. Imagine that in a society like the UK, where breakfast had been a traditional ritual for ages, 18% of people rarely ate in the mornings even though an impressive 51% acquiesced that breakfasting was essential for good health. This was according to a 2013 YouGov survey on the Breakfast Habits of British people.

While there are no statistics to undertake a comparative analysis with Nigerians, one expects significantly lower knowledge, attitude, and practice figures. Largely because of socioeconomic factors and an interesting misconception in this clime, that skipping breakfast helps in weight control.

The Entrepreneur Needs A Healthy Breakfast

As a businessman/woman, particular attention must be given to the day’s first meal. You want to be razor-sharp in cerebration during those morning meetings where figures will be thrown around and dotted lines will be signed. You want to be at the top of your game to ensure bottom lines remain above red.

This is what a good breakfasting habit helps with. Science supports it, in fact. Reports from the American Dietetic Association show a strong link between regular breakfasts and improved concentration, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. These are in addition to the positive effects on memory and cognition. So you want to ensure you are firing on all cylinders all day long just by starting the day right.

One can appreciate the difficulty associated with trying to make regular gym or exercise time by entrepreneurs. You are often bogged down by tasks, deadlines, and meetings thus putting physical fitness at risk. As this cycle persists, avoiding weight gain and obesity becomes imperative. A simple way to tackle this would be to develop a healthy breakfast habit.

In 2013, researchers at Harvard published findings that suggested breakfast helped ward off unwholesome feeding during the day by saturating the centres in the brain that control hunger. This means you can go longer through the day without feeling hungry and you are less likely to overeat during the day simply because you took the initiative of priming your body. This effect, according to the study, attenuates the risk of heart disease, hypertension, and diabetes-related to obesity. Is it not interesting that men who regularly ate in the mornings were more than four times less likely to have heart attacks than those who skipped breakfast?

It does not help to feel listless and flat in the mornings when there are meetings to attend and products or services to be delivered. It is of utmost importance that you are at optimal energy levels to get the desired results as the day goes by. Having a healthy breakfast helps optimise your energy levels by properly stabilising body glucose. Glucose is essentially the fuel your body burns up for your daily activities and when improperly balanced can cause phases of low-energy and listlessness in between normal levels with a dip in productivity at such times.

Science, again, agrees with this as nutritionists reported in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition in 2015. They found that the level of physical activities in healthy breakfast eaters was significantly higher than the folks who skipped their first daily meals. They further attributed the good weight control observed in the former group to this heightened metabolic rate and overall improved energy utilisation.

The onus lies on individuals who desire to start their day on a natural high to pay adequate attention to their bodies by feeding properly. You simply cannot undermine the importance of having a great start to every day on productivity and ultimately value creation. Even in the harsh prevailing economic conditions, a simple healthy breakfast with some skimmed milk, whole-grain cereal, a fruit, and an egg should suffice without breaking the bank. It may help to have a meal plan designed the night before to ensure you have everything set out and ready for the next morning. It should become a routine like picking out the next morning’s shirt and shoes.

The odds are always against you anyway– why not do what you can to get ahead?
