Innovating Justice Challenge 2020

The Innovating Justice Challenge 2020 is calling for applications from innovative startups who are transforming the justice sector. This is an opportunity to grow a game-changing justice innovation into an impactful business and join the league of justice innovators.

The Innovating Justice Challenge began in 2011 as the only accelerator worldwide dedicated to justice and SDG16. Since then, it has successfully funded, trained, and scaled over 110 startups globally. Its major focus is on innovative entrepreneurs who are preventing or resolving pressing justice problems; who are people or user-centred; rather than system-centred and reaching millions of people.

Benefits Of the Innovating Justice Challenge 2020

It is a four-month program that provides startups in the justice sector with:

  • Training, peer learning, coaching, and mentorship.
  • 100,000 EUR non-equity funding.
  • Access to a global network of justice institutions, impact investors, legal tech organisations, and academics.
  • Potential investment opportunities and
  • International exposure which will take place at the Innovating Justice Forum 2021.

Eligibility Criteria

The innovation challenge is for most promising justice startups in East Africa, West Africa, Southern Africa, Middle East, North Africa (MENA), and Ukraine who meets the following criteria;

  • Have products or services that prevent or resolve justice problems (e.g. help people to get access to legal services, work on removing barriers for people to access financial services, or get a registered identity, preventing (digital) fraud, tracking crime, etc.).
  • Are already showing serious traction and measurable impact.
  • Have a strong business model with the potential to become financially sustainable.
  • The ambition and plan to scale across different markets.
  • Are led by a strong team of experienced and inspiring founder(s).

Timeline

  • The application process ends on 5th August 2020.
  • Selection:  Interviews, Bootcamp, Pitch Event September 2020
  • Acceleration October 2020 – February 2021
