Top 10 Stockbrokers Trade A Total Of N597.4 Billion In H1 2020 Amidst COVID-19 Pandemic

Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic and the economic downturn, the top ten stockbroking firms in Nigeria traded a total of N597.4 billion worth of shares in H1 2020. According to the Broker Performance Report released by the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE), the ten stockbrokers at the top of the list traded a total of N597.4 billion and a total volume of 39.6 billion units of shares in H1 2020. 

According to the report, the total value of shares traded, and the total volume of shares traded on the Nigerian Stock Exchange at the same time were 59.31% & 47.22% respectively.

  • Stanbic IBTC Stockbrokers Ltd.: The first on the list with the most value of stocks traded is Stanbic IBTC Stockbrokers Ltd. They are valued at N128.3 billion, which accounts for 12.73% of the total value of shares traded during the period. 
  • EFG Hermes Nig. Ltd.: Second on the list with a transaction value of N118.5 billion. This accounts for 11.77% of the total value of shares traded.  
  • Rencap Securities Nigeria Ltd.: They are sitting pretty on the third spot with a transaction value to the tune of N82.2 billion. This accounts for 8.16% of the total value of shares traded. 
  • CSL Stockbrokers Ltd.: The fourth on the list with a total transaction value of N63.5 billion was CSL Stockbrokers. They account for 6.30% of the total value of shares traded. 
  • Cardinal Stone Securities Ltd.: The fifth on the list, Cardinal Stone Securities transacted in shares valued at N50.5 billion as well, representing 5.02% of the total traded shares. 
  • Chapel Hill Denham Securities.: The sixth on the list transacted in shares valued at N34.2 billion. And, this represents 3.40% of the total traded shares during the period under review. 
  • Tellimer Capital Limited: The seventh on the list, Tellimer Capital Limited transacted in shares valued at N33.5 billion as well, representing a 3.33% of the total traded shares during the period under review. 
  • Cordros Securities (N31.4 billion) Ltd.: Eighth on the list with a transaction value of N31.4 billion. This accounts for 3.12% of the total value of shares traded. 
  • Meristem Stockbrokers Ltd.: Ninth on the list with a transaction value of N28.9 billion. This accounts for 2.87% of the total value of shares traded. 
  • FBN Quest Securities Ltd.: The tenth on the list, FBN Quest Securities transacted in shares valued at N26.2 billion as well, representing a 2.60% of the total traded shares during the period under review. 

Top 10 Stockbrokers by Volume of shares traded 

  • Cardinal Stone Securities Ltd.: The first on the list, with trades of 6.2 billion units of shares. This represents 7.37% of the total units traded in H1 2020.
  • EFG Hermes Nig. Ltd.: Second on the list was EFG Hermes which traded 6.1 billion units of shares. They account for 7.28% of the total shares traded in the period under review. 
  • Morgan Capital securities Ltd.: Third on the ranking which traded 5.7 billion units of shares in H1 2020. Also, this accounts for 6.76% of the total shares traded at the same time.
  • Stanbic IBTC Stockbrokers Ltd.: Stanbic IBTC Stockbrokers which topped the list as regards value traded, is fourth on the list trading 4.7 billion units of shares. Also, the volume amounts to 5.557% to the overall volume of shares traded. 
  • Rencap Securities Nigeria Ltd.: Rencap traded 4.5 billion units of shares to stand in the fifth position. It accounts for 5.34% of the total volume of shares. 
  • CSL Stockbrokers Ltd (3.9 billion units): CSL stockbrokers ranked sixth on the list, which traded 3.9 billion units of shares in H1 2020. Also, it accounts for 4.68% of the total shares traded at the same time.
  • Meristem Stockbrokers Ltd.: Seventh on the list was Meristem Stockbrokers Ltd which traded 2.9 billion units of shares. They account for 3.47% of the total shares traded in the period under review. 
  • Chapel Hill Denham Securities Ltd.: Eighth on the ranking is CSL Stockbrokers Ltd which traded 1.9 billion units of shares in H1 2020. It accounts for 2.36% of the total shares traded at the same time. 
  • Coronation Securities Ltd.: Ninth on the ranking is Coronation Securities Ltd which traded 1.8 billion units of shares in H1 2020. It accounts for 2.21% of the total shares traded within the same time
  • APEL Asset Ltd.: Tenth on the list was APEL Asset Ltd, which traded 1.8 billion units of shares. Also, they account for 2.18% of the total shares traded.
