This is a program that develops young people into ethical and impactful leaders by connecting them with mentorship, networking, training, and funding opportunities over the course of an intensive fellowship year.

About The Carrington Youth Fellowship Initiative (CYFI)
The Carrington Youth Fellowship Initiative, CYFI, is a dynamic youth-based initiative launched in 2011 by the U.S Consulate General, Lagos. It brings together Nigerian youth of exceptional vision, skills, and experience to design and implement projects that have a positive impact on Nigerian society.
Former Ambassador to Nigeria, Walter Carrington, was a champion of civil liberties, democracy and closer ties between the U.S. and Nigeria. As a result, CYFI fellows are committed to putting the ideals of Walter Carrington into practice.
Basically, the CYFI Board of Directors, in conjunction with the Public Affairs Section at the U.S Consulate General, Lagos, selects fellows who demonstrate exceptional vision, skills, and experience. Then, group the fellows into teams based on interest, and teams. They then develop and implement their own youth engagement project over the course of the one-year fellowship duration.
In addition to working with your team to bring your project to fruition, as a Carrington fellow, you have the opportunity to attend various networking events, roundtables, and forums on relevant social issues, hosted by the U.S. Consulate General, Lagos. Thereafter, the year program will conclude with an awards ceremony where fellows will be inducted into the CYFI Alumni Program.

Carrington Youth Fellowship Program 2021 Timeline
- Application Deadline – February 5, 2021
- Interviews – February 2021
- Notification of Admission – March 2021
Please Note: You are to fill all required fields during application and submit before the deadline. After which, selected applicants will be notified by the CYFI Board for an interview. Then, interviews will be held at the U.S Consulate General in Lagos.
